Making Wine for Your Wedding or Special Events

1) Liquor Licence - Special Occasion Permit

You will need to apply for a Special Occasion Permit. Click This Link for details

2) Is It Allowed at the Event Location?

Confirm with the location you have chosen that they allow you to bring your own wine. If they do you should find out if there is a corkage fee. A corkage fee is a service charge for serving the wine. A good way to reduce this cost is to use larger bottles.

3) Wine Type

The type of wine you choose should pair well with the food you plan on serving. We can assist you in selecting an appropriate wine for your special day or you can take a look at our wine description section for appropriate wine pairings.

4) Quality Level

The quality of wine you choose also influences the flavor. We recommend the 100% Juice quality level for weddings as it is an excellent value for the price.  (Remember craft wine is up to 1/3 of the commercial price without sacrificing the quality or flavour.)

5) Quantity

Use the Equation below to determine how many bottles you need (750ml).

(# of Guests - Non Drinkers ) X 2 Glasses per person
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------    = # of Bottles (750ml)
4 glasses per bottle
For Example
A wedding with 200 guests of which 10 are children would result in.
(200 - 10) X2
-------------   = 95 bottles = 3 batches (90 bottles) or 4 batches (120 bottles)
4

The typical wedding is 4 batches of wine (120 bottles) with 2 batches of red wine and 2 batches of white wine. It is always better to have more wine than you think you will need. Extra wine bottles make excellent gifts for your guests, for before and after wedding parties and don't forget for your first year anniversary.

6) How early ahead of my wedding date should I make my wine?

The earlier you make your wine the more time it will have allowing the flavours to fully develop, so the wait will definitely be worth it!

For white wines made from 6 week kits we recommend that once you bottle your wine, you further age it in the bottle for another 2 to 3 months before serving it at your wedding.

For example if your wedding is on June 1st you will want to go into the store to make your white wine by mid January.  I you have chosen a six week kit you could then bottle it at the end of February and have three months for your wine to mature in the bottle, making it just perfect on your wedding day.

Red wines require a little bit more time to bottle age; however, the resulting wine will show great depth of flavour.  You will want to bottle age red wine from a 6 week kit for a minimum of four months before serving.

For example, if your wedding is on June 1st, the latest you will want to go into the store to make your red wine is mid December.  You could then bottle your wine at the end of January providing four months for it to bottle age.
